Sudan Frees Reporter
Paul Salopek was released from a prison in northern Darfur, Sudan, around 6pm tonight. As a journalist working for National Geographic, Paul found himself in jail on espionage charges for writing "false" stories.
His hearing lasting all of 13 minutes, and the judge said, "We are stopping the case and we are releasing you right now. And that is all."
This is great news for free speech in general and Paul in specific. He was picked up by Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico and his wife who had accompanied him to plead with Bashir for Paul's release.
